Nayanthara’s real name is Diana Mariam Kurian. She was born to an Indian Air force officer from Kerala, India on November 18, 1984. She was educated in various schools and colleges in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. She is best known by her stage name Nayanthara. Nayanthara attended Marthoma College in Thiruvalla for her Bachelor’s degree in English Literature. She is a native of Tiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, India.
Young Diana Mariyam Kurian, was chosen 1st runner up in the Best Model competition for Kerala 2003, which was conducted by Thrissur Advertising Club. This gave her a few opportunities in modeling for advertisements and that was the beginning of a raising star. While at college, she was spotted by director Satyan Anthikkad and cast opposite Jayaram in Manassinakkare. Manassinakkare was released in 2003. Even though Nayanthara was a newcomer, director Sathyan Anthikkad decided to cast her opposite Jayaram as a heroine. In this way she was lucky to be a heroine in the very first film. The stage name Nayanthara was suggested by the director Satyan Anthikkad itself.
Crowed was fascinated by her sparkling eyes, and Nayanthara became a star overnight. Afterwards, she co-starred alongside Mohanlal in Natturajavu and in Fazil’s Vismayathumbathu. She was also cast with Mammootty in Thaskaraveeran (Dubbed into Tamil as Yuvaraj) and Raapakal.
After a brief stint in Malayalam film industry Nayanthara decided to try her luck in other south Indian languages as well. Many lucrative offers followed in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and even in Hindi films.
Nayanthara’s Tamil film Yaaradi Nee Mohini released in 2008 was a huge hit and received seven nominations at the 56th Filmfare awards South; it was one of the highest grossing Tamil films of the year.
